Like every other aspect of our life, it looks like our makeup bags are about to get a minimalist makeover. With the focus of the industry shifting onto natural beauty, multi-purpose products are gaining in popularity with both beauty influencers and editors alike. There’s no doubt that the pandemic has also played a role in their sudden popularity. Less of us are wearing a full face of makeup (if any makeup!) so we’re streamline our routine down to as few products as possible. More people want a quick and easy way of applying makeup, and the industry is responding with all-in-one beauty products. Are they worth the type?
Only a few years ago, the internet was full of beauty influencers trying to do a “five-minute makeup” trend. It seems like this is about to become the future of makeup. Brands like Fenty are already leading the pack with multi-purpose products. Fenty’s Match Stix launched before the pandemic and is a highlighter, concealer, and contouring product all-in-one.
A two-in-one product that always jumps to mind is the cream brush and lip duo. This all-in-one product has been around for years and almost every brand has a variant of it. Glossier is a go-to choice for people who like natural beauty and are a fan of the convenience of all-in-one beauty products. Their infamous ‘Cloud Paint’ blush can be used on your cheeks (as intended) or on your lips to give a natural looking tint. It’s this style of product that you can expect to see more of in the future.
Another brand that is promoting the idea of minimalistic makeup and all-in-one products is Merit, a vegan and clean beauty brand. Their tag line is “well-edited essentials that have earned a place on your vanity”. Merit’s Instagram feed is full of advice on how to create a five-minute morning routine. The purpose of brands like Merit is to speed up your makeup routine and to make it feel less like a chore and more like a self-care routine.
An aspect of these all-in-one products that is often overlooked is their sustainability. We could all confess to owning a few too many makeup products. After all, do you really need fifteen different shades of blush? The all-in-one beauty product trend promotes the idea of having a smaller makeup bag with a core group of products that have more than one purpose. Not only can these products save you money, they can cut down on waste.
One thing to keep in mind is that all-in-one products won’t suddenly take control of our makeup routine. Yes, they’ll play a role in making it more streamlined but just consider how many different products you have in your makeup bag. The products that you use on your eyes are usually not going suitable for your lips. In the future, we think these all-in-one beauty products will sit alongside your everyday makeup routine as a way of saving you a little extra time in the morning.
What do you think of all-in-one beauty products? Will you be streamlining your makeup bag?
