Set your makeup with a powder puff, not with a brush

It’s time to ditch your oversized powder brush when using a setting powder. A powder puff has always been our ride or die makeup tool. If you want a natural look, a powder puff is your secret weapon. It helps to decrease shine and gives your skin a more natural look.

We recommend investing in a high-quality powder puff and keeping one in your makeup bag to use. A powder puff can also be used with cream powders to help you get an even application. Not only is a powder puff great for setting products, it’s also ideal to use with more pigmented products to help keep the colour in the right place.

Gently press the powder puff into your skin to apply the product to help maintain its application and pigment. It’s worth adding a back-up powder puff into your on-the-go makeup bag for easy touch ups when you’re out and about.

Use a fan brush to give you the best natural contours

A fan brush is one of the most underutilized brushes in any makeup kit. We’re all guilty of forgetting about it and it’s one of the brushes that inevitably ends up going to the back of our vanity. A fan brush is an all-round multitasker that you can use to apply everything from setting powder to blush and powder foundation.

We agree with Natseleen’s recommendation to use a fan brush instead of a traditional powder brush for contouring. The smaller brush puts you in control and makes it easier to apply the right amount of powder to your face. If you struggle with a heavy hand and find that you easily over-do your contour, a fan brush can be a gamechanger.

The dome shape of a fan brush makes it ideal for contouring everywhere on your face, including your forehead and jawline. If you want to create a natural, glowing makeup look, a fan brush is an essential part of your makeup kit. Once you’ve used it once, you won’t be able to go back to using a denser makeup brush.

Put setting spray onto a sponge and tap on your skin to relieve dry under eyes

If you want makeup that isn’t going to budge – or relieve dry under eyes – you need to start applying your setting spray with a sponge. Setting spray is a product that most of us use every day to set our makeup and keep it in place all day long. A setting spray is also an easy way to give your skin an extra boost of hydration throughout the day.

Most of us are guilty of just spraying the setting spray over our face and calling it a day. If you want to get the most out of your setting spray, you need to be using a sponge to lock everything into place.

We love to use this makeup hack to create a budge-proof makeup look, especially for face makeup. If you don’t want to use the sponge all over your face, you can focus it on the areas of your face where your foundation is more likely to smudge or separate. Focus it on your under eyes, around your nose and in your t-zone.

Once you start trying out this makeup hack, you’ll not be able to go back. It’s an extra step that you can incorporate into your routine that will boost the longevity of your makeup and give you a flawless finish.
