NewsThe 90’s fashion is one of the most iconic and standout epoques in fashion. The less bizarre than the 80’s yet not less interesting combinations and pieces that stand out with their simplicity, elements that marked a decade. It is interesting to observe how cycles in fashion keep coming around and are being recycled, yet the 90’s has left the most prominent mark and its comeback is engraved in the classics list. While the list goes on and on and can be summarized by ‘dad’s fashion’, there is more that we would like to turn your attention to. While some might only come back the second time around for season, there are undoubtedly others that have become a must have. Here are some of our favourite parts of the back in the days trends that are turning heads to themselves once again:
Screaming out Carrie Broadshow, this combination so awkward yet so catchy, screams confidence and fun weirdness. Definitely a harder one to match with your outfit, however to be able to pull this one off is a bold fashionista move. Elegant heels with patterned or even simple white socks will add funk to whatever you put on. You might consider how well it goes with oversized blazers and a short skirt, or under long pants. Think of intricate lace socks with high platform heels, or knee high socks with platforms, under a cute dress. Sporty Nike socks with elegant heels, under a funky dress. Quirky and flashy, with such a small detail your whole outfit is transformed.
Give quite a big sneak peak of your shapes, mesh tops with a cheeky bralette have come back around a while ago and have become the ultimate basic party go-to. Sheer dresses are the perfect solution for a restaurant day on the beach, covering you up just enough while allowing you to feel free and loose. Flowy long sheer dresses give you the perfect balance between intricacy and boldness, leaving you to be seen between the folds flowing in the wind.
This absolute classic is one that all of us must have in our wardrobe. Handy and easy to match with anything, we specifically like patterned ones more, over the plain Nike ones. Perfect on a sunny day with cold wind, in autumn over a sweater, on your mountain hike, on your walk down to get groceries. A bike ride or a day with friends, this casual piece of clothing is handy and simple to use for different occasions and with different moods.
The only downside of this element is finding the right and comfortable enough bra to wear with it. A tank top with spaghetti straps becomes a strap top you can wear with a cheek outfit, match it with pants, jeans or any skirt and throw on some heels. The most iconic use of this element however is in a dress. Elegance and fragile, emphasizing the delicate neckline and revealing the shoulders, this is bound to make you slay at any event. Think any fashion icon back in the 90’s and most in our 21st century, all own at least one dress with straps like these. We love how feminine it is, accentuating some of the most beautiful parts of our bodies.
You see more and more that low effort outfits are not necessarily making anyone less dressed up. We are loving how many big brands are embracing the-wider-the-better move, making the trousers looser, wider and more flowy. High waisted pants matched with some platform heels or boots or even just slides are a summer look you must have this year. Casual yet chic, relaxed yet dressed up.
Blaire Waldorf with her iconic move with these headbands has shown how much character a small detail can give to your look. Cute and bold, there are thousands of styles of these thick headbands you can find. Colorful and playful patterns with your summer dress or a more classy one to go with your little black dress. Accessories can make all the change sometimes and these headbands are a unique touch to add to your collection. Try getting a little scarf of the same color as the headband and connecting it to your bag.
The fastest way to get a classy hairstyle with just one move. Throw it in your bag on a not so good hair day and you will have a little something to throw it back in one move. We do enjoy the smaller claw clips for a half up half down look, but those long ones that you can use to collect all of your hair, twisting it around in a sausage and putting it upwards against the back of your scalp. You can create the famous slicked back low ponytail.
The definition of classy minimalist look is perfect for a night out or a little aesthetically pleasing picnic, we especially love the satin dresses. The way they underline the figure especially when a bit loose, the material and the way it flows down will make anyone feel glowy. An interesting twist to it is to wear it over a t-shirt with some combat boots or platform shoes.
The sleeveless sweater vests are the ultimate 2020-2021 piece. Perfect for spring or a summer night, easy to wear and easier to use to add some class to any simple outfit, this piece is a classic to obtain. Sleeveless pieces can be tougher to match during a cold season, but a tight long sleeve top or sweater is the perfect combination. Sleeveless jackets are lifesavers for between season times and can be worn as easily to the shop as out to a restaurant or terrasse.
The ultimate quality of 90s fashion is baggy. Baggy everything. It makes everything more comfortable and not any less stylish. Baggy jeans weather flared or mom jeans are to hunt for, often designed well by some brands in a way it does not take away from your form but only enhances them, while keeping it super casual and cool. Oversized has been in for a while and it certainly another feeling to put a baggy t-shirt or hoodie over some tighter bottoms. However, the bigger the better.
With some of the most luxurious brands taking their turn to incorporate these classics in their collections, there are really some to die for. Arguably the most comfortable and comforting shoes, these make you feel at home anywhere you go. For a perfect beach lunch or stroll around on a sunny day, you can get these fluffy or a tighter fit. Practically matchable with anything, slides have made their mark in history for a reason.
Refreshing your wardrobe every season can be expensive. More of us than ever are choosing to build capsule wardrobes and take a vow of minimalism. Unless you’ve got the budget of a Hadid or a Kardashian, it’s unlikely you can buy into every fashion trend. Thankfully, trends are like boomerangs that eventually come back around.
Before the pandemic hit, TikTok was app that few of us took seriously. In fact, most of us swore to never download it. Then the pandemic hit, and everything changed. With endless hours in the days that we needed to fill, TikTok became the leading social media platform by the end of 2020. While we often associate Instagram with fashion trends, TikTok is rivalling the app for its fashion crown. With its viral videos, TikTok has become a breeding ground for every type of subculture. The algorithm allows you to curate your ‘for you page’ to reflect your fashion and personality.
If you’ve ever watched Star Wars (or any sci-fi film), you’ve probably considered giving space buns a try. The style was made famous by Carrie Fisher in her role as Princess Leia, with the look having a resurgence following the latest trilogy of the franchise. Outside of the Star Wars inspiration, this hairstyle brings together 90s trends with a fun e-girl look. This style is easier to create than you might expect, and it’s a versatile way of styling your hair.
The first time you hear the phrase ‘Y2K’ it might stop you in your tracks. The name simply refers to the year 2000, focusing on the trends of the early 2000s up until 2010. Why are the trends back so soon? Usually, most fashion trends work on a twenty-year cycle as one generation grows up and sees the clothing style of the previous one. The Y2K trend has been made popular by Generation Z, who have come to love the trends they were too young to appreciate as children. There are Instagram accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers, dedicated to posting y2k fashion inspiration.
