Sunset Illusion

Recreate a sunset on your nails with bold shades that will spark joy into your day. Even if it’s raining outside, it’ll still be a tropical paradise on your nails. The most popular colour combination for this trend is pinks and oranges, but you can shake it up with a touch of blue. You want the colour to gradually transition from the darker to lighter shades, just like the sunset.

Bright Colours

For 2021, nail trends are all about adding as much colour as possible. This is one trend you can easily experiment with at home. Trending colours of the season include mellow yellow, mint green, and magenta pink. You can keep it classic with one colour on all your nails or rotate it out with a different colour on each nail. It’s also an opportunity to think outside the box and add some nail art. We love these smiley faces!

Pastel Shades

If bold colours are a bit too much for you, why not try their pastel alternatives. These will still brighten your day without being too over the top. If you’re looking to experiment more with colours, it’s a good idea to start with a muted colour and make your way up to bolder shades. You can keep it fun and feminine with a classic shade of pink or spice it up with lilac or periwinkle blue. Mellow yellow is one of the trending colours of 2021 and is the perfect alternative to a nude or beige polish.

Acrylic vs Gel Nails:

One thing you will want to consider is whether you want gels or acrylics – these are the two most popular options if you’re having your nails done professionally. While you can always try to recreate these trends at home with polish in your collection, having your nails professionally done is the perfect way to give yourself a treat.

Acrylic nails are made using a mix of powder and liquid monomer that creates a dough like blob, which is shaped onto your nail using a brush before being air-dried. Acrylics do not need to be put under a UV lamp to cure. It’s an ideal manicure for you if you want to change the shape and extend the length of your nails. Nail forms are typically used to give you a more natural look. Your acrylics will be shaped and painted to get your desired look.

Gel manicures use a gel-based polish, similar to what you use at home, and utilize  UV light to cure the polish to stop it from smudging. It’s more durable than your regular polish and can stay looking perfect for weeks.

Acrylics require more upkeep than gel nails, with regular appointments every two to three weeks, but you can keep your set on for up to 8 weeks. By comparison, you usually get around 2 weeks of wear from your gel nails.

How to Look After Your Manicure

If you want a low maintenance look, you can choose a minimalistic shade like ballerina pink or a beige nude for a simple gel polish look. If these colors end up chipping, it’ll be less noticeable. A French manicure is a perfect choice if you want an elegant look while still enjoying the benefits of a light nail polish.

Whether you get acrylic or gel nails, there’s a few things you want to do to keep your hands and nails in a good condition:

• Regularly buffing your nails will help prevent any breakage of the tips and to keep them smooth.

• Cuticle oil is a must-have to look after your natural nails. It’s worth applying your cuticle oil every few days to help prevent chipping and keep your nail beds hydrated.

• Don’t forget to keep a hand lotion nearby to use regularly. The acetone used to remove acrylics or gel nails can cause the skin around your fingers to become dry. Hand lotion is a precautionary step to keep the skin moisturized, limiting any impact of the acetone remover
If you’re looking to get the most out of your acrylic or gel nails, there’s other things you can do to improve the lifespan of your manicure.
• You can get two weeks out of a gel manicure, and four weeks with acrylics if you look after them.

• It’s a good idea to wear gloves while washing dishes and avoid doing anything that might break your nails.

• You want to avoid fidgeting with your nails while your gel polish is on, as this can lift the polish and damage your nail beds. The last thing you want to do is to pull the gel off yourself.

• If you can help, you want to avoid taking your acrylic or gel nails off yourself. You need to have your manicure removed correctly, as otherwise it can damage your nail beds and cause long-term issues.

With a little TLC, you can keep your nails looking on-trend and shiny new. It’s usually best to give your nails a break every few months after back-to-back manicures. With summer right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to splurge on a manicure and matching pedicure.
