Extreme Smoke

Smoky eyes are making a comeback – and the best thing is, they’re one of the easiest looks to recreate at home. You don’t need to a professional MUA to create a smoky eye look. In fact, the more imperfect the better. Your smoky eye look is meant to capture the idea of ‘rock n roll’ and without any sharp or defined lines to the shadow.

One of the easiest ways to create an extremely smoky eyeshadow look is to take a cream shadow and apply it over your eyelid using a small dense eyeshadow brush to give you a solid foundation for your smoky eyeshadow look.

A smoky eyeshadow look is one where you don’t have to worry about going in with a heavy hand. It’s a makeup look that’s meant to look imperfect. You can go as heavy or light with your smoky eyeshadow look as you’d like. Finish off your smoky eyeshadow look with a coat of your favourite mascara.

Over the Top Colour

Speaking of extreme eyeshadow looks, it’s time to bring colour back into our lives. Helene Vasnier, the makeup artist for Giambattista Valli, created a pansy-inspired makeup look for fashion week that was focused on a vivid two-tone look. These abstract and watercolored shades gives the eyeshadow look a beautiful effect.

We also saw bold hues of colour at the Versace show. We fell in love with the electric cat eye liner and shades of crimson, cyan, and fuchsia. You can use saturated or swirled colours to help emphasise the contours of your face. You can carry a bold of pink over with a draped blush of bright fuchsia over your cheeks for a healthy glow. We saw this look at the Vivienne Westwood and Molly Goddard shows.

Don’t forget. Your face is a blank canvas that you can transform with colour and pigment.

Pencil Thin Lips

One unexpected trend that we saw on the runway was the idea of ‘pencil thin’ lips. We’re used to seeing the dramatic and oversee lips that were inspired by Kylie Jenner, but the ‘90s lip liner trend is making a comeback.

It adds a subtle boost to the shape of your lips without getting too carried away. The key is to make your liner and lipstick appear to blend together for a seamless look. Start by applying your lipstick first before taking your lipliner in a slightly darker shade to avoid an obvious contrast between the shades. The general rule of thumb is to always choose shades that are within two hues either side of your lipstick.

Snow White Inspired

With fall just around the corner, you can use Snow White as your styling muse – just like we saw on the runway. It’s a 1990s makeup trend that was largely led by Drew Barrymore. It’s ultra-fashionable and easy to create with just a few products. You want to choose the hues that work best with your undertones. If you’re someone who wears silver accessories, look out for frosted or silver shadows to add to your eyeshadow look. If you prefer gold jewellery, choose eyeshadow shades that have a yellow or golden undertone. You can go full Drew Barrymore by adding a coat of burgundy lipstick to contrast the hues of the eyeshadow.

Red-Hot Lips

Red lipstick is finally back in style. We were all guilty of ditching it when we were wearing face masks. After all, no one wanted to deal with the chaos of a smudging lipstick when wearing a face mask. For fall 2021, you want to invest in a highly-pigmentated red lipstick with a creamy consistency to stand out from the crowd.

We like to think of red lipstick as an instant confidence booster. It’s like stepping into your favourite designer shoes or the little black dress that hugs your curves. When you’re wearing red lipstick, everything changes.

You can finish off your makeup look by focusing on creating a dewy, luminous glow for your skin and adding a thin eyeliner to keep the attention on your lips. If you’ve mastered the art of skinimalism, you can even go makeup-free and focus on your lipstick.

We’ve seen red lipstick being reimagined in several ways this season. On the runway, models appeared with highly pigmented crimson lips, while others choose to go with brick red lipstick with a clear gloss for an ultra-glam finish.

If you’re worried about your red lipstick smudging, it’s a good idea to try and keep it soft with your finish. After all, red lipstick will always smudge. Other runway shows like Vivienne Westwood and Ferragamo went outside the box by using gold and silver liner for their red lipstick. Over at Nina Ricci, they decided to incorporate an oil-finish to their lips with a metallic shine.

Soft Monochrome

If you’re using fall 2021 as an opportunity to get back into the world of makeup, try soft monochrome looks – otherwise known as ‘soft glam’. This makeup trend is universally flattering and works for every skin tone and is beginner friendly.

The focus of the ‘soft glam’ look is to unlock your skin’s inner radiance with natural-looking makeup that has an elevated feel. Cream and liquid products are your best friend when creating the ‘soft glam’ look. Make sure to add a shine to your lips, cheekbones, and eyelids. Lipgloss is perfect for adding a healthy finish to your look. Instead of wearing black eyeliner, swap it out for a more understated hue like chocolate-brown or chestnut.

90s and Y2K Beauty

If you’re a fan of TikTok beauty trends, you’ll be familiar with the ‘90s and Y2K looks that are popping up everywhere right now. Celebrities are no stranger to these two aesthetics. Bella Hadid is the poster girl for ‘90s makeup.

‘90s makeup is all about nude lipstick and a dark lip liner. Keep your brows groomed and on the thinner side, while opening your eyes with a smoky wing. For the Y2K look, go for nostalgia with pastel shades and your favourite lip gloss.

Strong Lines

If there’s one thing that we love seeing on the runway, it’s avant-garde makeup with a classic twist. We saw this aesthetic appearing on the Erdem and Christian Dior shows on the runway. The secret to creating this look at home is to practice and be patient.

Focus on drawing the graphic shape with a grey or brown pencil before adding over a pigment-heavy eyeliner to give it a smoky finish. One thing you want to do is keep a cotton swab nearby to help clean up any mess.

You can make this celebrity-approved beauty trend more wearable with a simple nude lipstick or a clear gloss. While we love avant-garde makeup trends, you want to make sure you balance it out with a flawless base and don’t go too OTT with each part of your makeup.

Fall 2021 is an opportunity to have some fun with your makeup and fall back in love with your beauty routine.  These celebrity-approved beauty trends are the perfect way to shake up your look for the season.
