The flawless skin makeup hack

With the natural beauty trend, the focus is on creating a flawless base to give your skin a dewy glow. It’s one reason why skincare has come to dominate the beauty industry in recent months. You want to give the illusion of healthy skin that unlocks your natural radiance. As the saying goes, “fake it till you make it”.

Danielle Marcan, a “makeup guru wannabe” on the video-sharing app, shared her easy ‘flawless’ skin makeup hack. It works by reversing your makeup routine to start with your blush, contour, and highlighter before moving onto your foundation. While this might seem like you’re applying your makeup on backwards, it’s not unusual for some of the best hacks to swap up the order of your products.

This hack starts by applying contour to define your face, adding a pop of blush and highlighter for a natural shine and flush. You add on your foundation with a brush for buildable coverage before blending everything together with a beauty blush.

The results? A seamless and flawless base that gives you a goddess-worthy glow.

Pro-tip! This makeup hack is easier to recreate when you use liquid and cream-based products for easy blendability.

How to apply setting spray for all-day wear

Ever since the Urban Decay all-nighter spray came out, we’ve been using setting spray religiously to keep our makeup in place. No one wants to put in the effort of spending time applying your makeup every morning, only for it to melt off your face by lunch. While setting spray can be a miracle worker, you might just be using it wrong.

This makeup hack comes courtesy of @kevikodra, who showed us the best way to get the most out of our setting spray. Instead of applying it directly to your skin, you want to spray it onto a damp beauty blender until it becomes wet. You want to bounce the beauty blend onto the back of your hand to help it absorb into the sponge.

Start by pressing the beauty blender into your skin, working from the areas where you usually apply highlighter. It helps to give your skin a dewy, healthy glow while allowing the setting spray to settle into your skin to prevent any residue.

Where to place your blush

One of the first makeup lessons we ever learned was to apply blush to the apples of your cheek. You have to smile – but not too brightly – to help find the so-called perfect placement. What most of us don’t realise is that the placement of your blush can drastically change the appearance of your face. If it’s too low, it can make your face appear longer and fuller. If you raise your blush a little, you can give the illusion of a natural face lift to slim your face.

This makeup hack by @meganlavallie takes you through how to correctly place your blush, depending on your desired look. If you’re going for a natural contour, Megan shows you how to give your cheeks a slimmer appearance or create the appearance of a sun-kissed glow.

The Bratz-inspired lip liner hack

For years, we’ve been recreating Kylie Jenner’s signature overlined look for giving our lips the appear of being naturally plumper and larger. As the Y2K trend has taken over TikTok, it’s no surprise that Gen Z are looking to the era for their makeup inspiration.
This lip liner hack takes its inspiration from the Bratz dolls that were popular in the early-to-mid 2000s that most Gen Zs would have grown up playing with as a child.

This makeup hack is also known as ‘lip wings’ as it starts by working from the corner of your lips, winging it outwards, until they join. It might remind you of a cat-wing eyeliner with the definition that it gives to your lips. This hack calls for using a darker shade around your lips before filling in to finish off your look.

You can do this hack either with a traditional lip liner or by using a lip brush with your favourite lipstick for greater control and a creamer consistency.

The filter-worthy faux freckle hack

We’re no strangers to using filters to change our appearance on social media apps. While animal-inspired filters were all the rage just a few years ago, most of the filters on TikTok focus on giving you the illusion of a full-face of makeup. One of the most recent filters to go viral is the faux freckle filter, giving you a soft and whimsical look.

Freckles are an easy way to elevate your natural makeup look to keep it looking fresh, while giving you an envy-worthy glow to your skin. While there are dozens of products on the market tailored to creating faux freckles, this hack uses products you’ll already have.

All you need is a brow pencil or gel, dotting it across your cheeks and nose where natural freckles would sit. You can even use the filter as a reference to help you achieve a natural look. Press down on the pigment with your finger and blend into your skin.

The effortless concealer hack

Do you know that one product you’re probably not applying correctly is concealer? It’s an essential for any makeup look – especially the natural beauty trend – whether or not you want to layer it with a powder or foundation. The placement of your concealer is even more important than your blush placement.

Just like blush, it helps to lift your features and brighten your complexion and make you look wide away by hiding imperfections and blemishes.

This makeup hack focuses on angling your concealer to work it up and away from your eyes and the corner of your mouth. Add a small dot to the inner corner of your mouth, side of your nose, under your cheekbone, and directly under the centre of your eye. Once it’s all in place, blend the concealer into your skin for a seamless look.

Stay all-day lipstick trick

One of the most annoying things about makeup is when your lipstick starts to come off throughout the day. You might notice lipstick residue on the side of your coffee cup or look in the mirror to see bare lips staring back at you. When you spend a pretty penny on a lipstick, you want to get the most out of it.

With face masks still being the norm, it’s never been more important to have a makeup hack that can keep your lipstick in place al-day long.

Apply your lipstick as you usually do, before taking a tissue and peeling off the top layer so that you’re left with only one layer of tissue. Place it gently over your lips before taking a translucent powder with a fluffy brush, applying it over the tissue.

When you life the tissue from your lips, you’ll get a matte finish with all-day wear. It’s our new go-to makeup hack for days out or when we don’t want to worry about reapplying lipstick on a night out.
