The Holiday Makeup We’ll Be Wearing This Festive Season

The holidays are coming! In between the Christmas shopping and food prep, it’s worth taking time to reflect on your social calendar. After last holiday season fell foul of the pandemic, we’re all ready to make up for lost time by making the most of this festive season. That means going to as many family get-togethers, cocktail parties, and Christmas dinners as we can fit into your Google Calendar!

By now, you’re probably dusting off your makeup bag or thinking of investing in a few new staples to see you through the holiday season. If there’s any time of the year to experiment with something quirky and new, it’s the holiday season. We love festive makeup for its classic-but-on-trend appearance and the fact that it’s all about dark hues and sparkly aesthetics.

Read on to find out about the holiday makeup looks that we’ll be wearing this festive season. Don’t forget to bookmark this page to reference throughout the holiday season!

Classic Holiday Glamour

When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a red lip and winged eyeliner. You can give this timeless look a quirky feel by adding a dewy shimmer eye shadow to keep your look contemporary and on trend. We love to finish off this holiday makeup look with a flawless base for a healthy glow.

Emerald eyes

Green is one of the colour trends of winter 2021, with makeup being no exception. Your eye makeup is the perfect way to incorporate this colour trend into your look. Other jewel tones that are worth considering include amethyst and sapphire. These richer tones will help your eyes pop, whether you use them as an eyeshadow or a liner.

Glitter wing eyeliner

Give an angel their wings with a glitter wing eyeliner look. This intricate holiday makeup look is easier to create than you might think. You can use a cream shadow or a glitter glue to create a base before using tape to give you a sharp edge. While the basic is still tacky, you can pat loose glitter onto your eyes with your finger. Remove the tape and collect any stray glitter. You can finish off your look with a high-shine glossy for an editorial-inspired holiday season makeup trend.

Wine-stained lips

If you’re a fan of indulging in an evening glass of wine, you’ll be familiar with the stain that red wine leaves behind on your lips. You can recreate this look with a deep berry or wine shade by applying it with a light hand. Look out for a formula that is long wearing so that it will survive under your face mask if you’re heading out in public.

Popsicle lips

Although face masks are still required in some settings, you can still have fun with your lip makeup. If you’re going to a private party, you can go all out with the popsicle lips trend. It’s the latest take on the cherry lips look and is easy to recreate by using a stained red lipstick with a glossy finish. You can use a tinted lip oil to give you the same illusion. We love to balance this holiday makeup look with a minimalistic makeup aesthetic and a flawless base.

All that glitters is golden

If there’s any time to have fun with shimmery makeup, it’s the holiday season. Unlock your inner glow with golden shimmers. You can go all out by sweeping it across your lids or take a more subtle look by focusing the pigment on the inner corners of your eyes.

Sculpted blush/draping

Try something new and experiment with the sculpted blush trend – also known as draping. It’s all about changing the placement of your blush to give your skin a natural glow and to give you a softer look than contour. Draping is a more subtle look than using contour and can gently sculpt your face to create a slimming illusion.

Snow globe inspired eyes

Take your inspiration from one of our favourite holiday season decorations – a snow globe. Have fun with glitter on your eyes by experimenting with pigment before taking a contrasting black liner, complete with silver sparkles, and finishing off with your signature liner style.

Soft pastels

Pastels aren’t just for spring and summer – they’re also a feminine staple for the holiday season. Baby blue is a fun soft pastel to experiment with during the festive seasons. You can add a pop of baby blue using an eye pencil to your inner corner before smudging it for a softer look.
