The hair hacks your stylist isn't telling you about

Most of us would trust our hairstylist with our life. After all, they’re dealing with our hair and that requires a lot of trust between you and your stylist. While they might give you advice about a shampoo to use or the right curling iron to buy, they’re never going to share with you their book of secrets. This is where we come in. We have 5 hair hacks that your stylist isn’t going to tell you about, but that you should know.

Wear Silk Scrunchies

Go to your vanity, take out your elastic hairbands and throw them in the bin. You want to invest in silk scrunchies to help maintain the condition of your hair and prevent breakage. Silk scrunchies are also the secret to keeping volume in your hair overnight. It can also help to prevent your hair from drying as it reduces friction and tension in your hair that would get from an elastic hair tie.

Stop Touching Your Hair

The easiest way you can improve the condition of your hair is to stop playing with it. Stop touching your hair throughout the day. The more you play with your hair, the greasier it’ll become and the quicker it’ll lose it shape. Find something else to fiddle with when you’re bored but leave your hair alone!

Heatless Waves

We all now the dangers that heat damage possess to our hair. If you want to get natural looking waves, you don’t have to put your hair through a curling wand. Separate the hair into four braids. Run your fingers over the braids until they become loose before placing a flat iron on each braid for around five seconds at less than 185 degrees. Wait until your hair is cool before removing the braids from their elastics. You should instant curls without the extensive amount of heat.

Hot Showers Are Not Your Friend

While we all enjoy a hot shower on a cold day, they’re your hair’s worse enemy. When you have a hot shower, the steam strips your hair of its essential oils and moisture levels, leaving your scalp dry. If you have curly or coarse hair, this is something you particularly want to keep in mind. You don’t have to switch to freezing cold showers, but it’s worthwhile to lower the temperature of your shower even a little for the sake of your hair. Make sure you turn the temperature down whenever you’re washing your shampoo and conditioner out of your hair.

Don’t Rub Your Curls

If you have curly hair, you’ve probably been guilty of rubbing your hair with a towel to try and lift off the excess water when you’ve stepped out of the shower. While you should always try to use a hairdryer with your curls to give you definition, most people like to get off the excess water to make it easier to blowdry. Instead of using a bath towel, pick up bamboo blotting sheets or a microfibre towel to blot dry your hair The blotting motion will prevent frizz while still drying your hair.

What do you think of these hair hacks? Are there any questions you would ask your hair stylist if you had the chance?
