Makeup Lifting Technique by @justinelamppe That Went Viral on TikTok – Explained

TikTok is quickly becoming our go-to destination for makeup hacks and tutorials. If you’ve always struggled with contouring, you’re in luck with the latest viral makeup trend from TikTok. Instead of relying solely on contour, this makeup lifting technique instead stacks the different parts of your makeup together for a more seamless look. One of the most viral videos on this lifting technique is by @justinelamppe on TikTok. The content creator followed up her viral video with an in-depth tutorial showing how she creates a subtle lifting technique.

While there are several different approaches that you can use for the makeup lifting technique, we’re covering the steps used in this video – along with everything you need to know about the ‘face-lift’ makeup trend.

Meet the viral TikTok trend

What we love about Justine’s video is that it’s super simple and uses a concealer, white liner, and contour to create her distinctive sculpted look. This lifting technique is ideal if you don’t want to play with blush or if you want a subtle and natural finish for your lift.

Justine starts by applying concealer under the eyes, moving in an upwards diagonal direction. You can follow the same line that you would use to create a cat-eye liner look. Follow up by patting the concealer along the side of your nose, including just below the inner corner of your eye. Add concealer in a diagonal line directly under where your contour while be applied, as well as below the curve of your lips. You can use a large powder blush to blend the concealer for a flawless finish.

Take the white line and trace over the areas that you applied the original concealer, along with your brow bone. You can blend the pigment with your fingers for a seamless look. Once you’ve completed these steps, you can apply your contouring as normal.

What is the face-lift hack?

The face-lift hack (also known as ‘blush sandwich’) revolves around using a concealer and other products to give the illusion of a lifting effect to your skin. While this TikTok video used a white liner and contour, you can also use a highlighter and blush for the same effect. The beauty of this makeup technique is that it is flexible and puts you in control of how you want to lift your skin.

The premise of this makeup technique is that you’re essential stacking your makeup products and nailing the placement at the same time. You’ll notice that everyone doing this trend is placing their blush higher than most of us would do on a daily basis. Instead of applying the blush on the apples of your cheek, your contour goes on the hallows of your cheeks with your blush on top of it. In this sense, the technique is comparable to the ‘draping’ technique that was all over Instagram in spring and summer.

Concealer is the difference between the face-lift and draping techniques. You apply the concealer by blending it up and out from your eyes to create the illusion of a natural-looking highlighter. You blend each product up towards your temples to give you a lifted look.

Does this makeup hack live up to the hype?

Don’t knock it till you try it! We love this makeup trend as it’s an innovative way to give the illusion of a slimmer face without packing on contour. What makes this technique special is how it changes the placement of your products. By moving where you place your blush, you’re able to face your face shape and give the illusion of higher cheekbones for a slimmer face. By applying your blush higher, you’re also able to make your cheeks appear more lifted.

The one thing to consider about this makeup technique is how it looks in real life. While you might look amazing face-on, this technique can easily be overdone and give your face a fake look from the side if you take the pigments too high up your temple.

When you’re starting with this makeup technique, we recommend beginning by applying each step separately – like how Justine did in her TikTok video. While the stacking concept is innovative in and of itself, doing each step individually gives you more control and ensures that you’re applying everything correctly.
